A musical tribute to HM The Queen Elizabeth II to mark 70 years of her reign.

“Weeks of hard work and dedicated rehearsal have gone into today’s performance, and I thank all the schoolchildren, teachers, parents, musicians, singers and supporters for their time and effort in producing this celebration of Norfolk’s performing arts in tribute to Her Majesty. Let’s all join in and sing along.”

The Lady Dannatt, MBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk

Music
We have chosen this music to remind ourselves of Queen Elizabeth’s long reign, its European and international significance, and to give our audience a chance to show its appreciation of Her Majesty’s dignity, steadfastness and integrity over an unprecedentedly long epoch in our island history.

We start with KWA HERI, sung by the African Choir of Norfolk. KWA HERI is a Swahili song from Kenya, where the young Princess Elizabeth learned of her father’s death and her accession.

A LIFE FILLED WITH GRACE is a newly composed Song for the Commonwealth, of which Her Majesty has been Head for many decades.

The joint choirs, accompanied by the Norfolk Music Hub Ensemble, will sing Handel’s ZADOK THE PRIEST, composed for George I.

Following a specially commissioned fanfare (by young Norfolk composer Christopher Brooke) the Showground audience will be invited to sing the National Anthem.

A Royal Salute will finish with a second Kenyan song, ZUVA.
