Spring Fling

THOUSANDS FLOCK TO 2010 SPRING FLING (held Thursday 15th April)

This year we entertained over 5,000 visitors to the eleventh Spring Fling. Numbers well exceeded last year and we sponsored over 1,600 school children and their families from 7 schools in Norfolk with the help of some generous sponsorship.

We now have over 100 stands at this event, all interactive which the children love.  The Young Farmers were painting slices of bread with coloured milk; it was then toasted and ready to eat.  Cornerways at Wissington produced a very colourful stand with their tomatoes and the RSPB were producing biodegradable pots, organic compost and organic sunflower seeds which children were planting.  They could then make and colour a sunflower from cut outs with the stem acting as a ruler to show what height it should reach before planting in the garden -  ingenious.
John Innes was asking children to draw pictures of their worst and favourite meals. If you have any cereals in your cupboards that are out of date or something like All Bran that you may not like, buy some glue, draw a picture and ask your children or grandchildren to take a leaf from the WFU stand creating collages out of cereals and poppy seeds.

Seven tractors and trailers must have done about 20 trips each during the day taking children to the ever popular Countryside Area where Dog Agility and a walk with the gamekeepers proved winners this year, as were the hissing cockroaches and tortoises.

We are most grateful to the following sponsors who helped to make the whole event happen: Anglia Farmers Ltd, Chadacre Agricultural Trust, G.W. Daniels, Holt Farmers Club, Norfolk Farmers’ Trust, Rapide Print, Stalham Farmers Club, The Clan Trust, The John Jarrold Trust and Virgin Money Financial Services
